Diner

They met one last time

at the diner around the corner

from her first flutter heartbeat

and his last shadow at her door.

They met to divvy up memories,

regrets, and last second promises.

They could only exchange keys

and let the coolness of goodbye

settle into fingertips, but their final glances

were farewell enough.
