Birds on a Branch

The birds

wait

on the highest

branch.

Rock back

and forth

with tiny wings

as watch

the tall grass

sway.

The blades

bend

around a lean body

bristling in orange

and black tip ears.

The fox

waits

for the birds

to drop

upon the floor.

Eyes follow

them

side to side

and it licks

its lips.
