Hometown

A single traffic light

  town

wedged between mountains

 and cows.

I learned how to ride

 my bike

for miles of trees

and a simple two lane highway.

The namesake

a lake that learned to skip

before anyone else

 but returned

to the other side of town

like almost everyone else.

 We learn entertainment

in cloud animals

 and tree fort

sleepovers.

Owl feathers

 coyote howls

a black bear scrambles

 across the road

and truck with a bed full of dogs.

Blink too soon

 and miss the three blocks

of downtown

 and the single

traffic light.
