The northern lights
stretched from the North Pole
and one winter, I watched them
dance in magical bursts.
The sky flashed with yellows and greens,
and the lights spread across the black sky.
They formed figures, and I watched them
waltz over the stars.
I sat in the car, kneeling forward,
and quiet so they didn’t notice me
as each flash was another incantation
of Mother Nature.
I didn’t want to disrupt the sorcery,
so I slouched down in my chair
and spent the night enchanted
by the northern lights.
