The Flautist

(Published August 2021)

The flautist plays a lullaby

in the shadows

of an empty terminal.

He plays to the city

to sleep, to rest.

He dances slowly-

a delicate sway

between the musician and the city.

Slack movements as the music

took the city by the hand

for the last slow dance

of the night.

The flautist provides a ballad-

a gentle melody

that tickles the ear drums;

to vibrate down the hallways

and to muffle the screech of train breaks.

He gives the city

a backstory for the day.

The flautist gives the city-

a love story.
