Grapefruit

(Published May 2021)

She had been tender

Once her skin

Peeled back to reveal

Pink, ripe flesh

So full of life

You want to sink teeth in

Shred her apart

With a half smile

Pull her story in parts

For sweet satisfaction

But, truth can be harsh

And she, very bitter

No matter the amount

Of sugar sweet words

Her tart love stung at my lips

Leaving them swollen

Puckered in regret
