Ode to Friday Nights

The minute the time card punches
my fingers fly away from the keyboard
and I find my hands reach
for a book, a pen, a daydream.
I turn up the bad television
and order in pizza.
I find those moments to hug my son
and laugh together.
Let the air escape my lungs,
and inhale freedom.
Then stand there, baffled;
as I try to figure out which hobby
I plan to escape too.
Bring on the words, the paint,
the pixelated adventures.
Let my body sag with relaxation
as I plan to stay up all night
and take in every second,
then replace with a game, an activity
that I had been craving all week.
Welcome Friday nights
and let the good times begin.
