The space needle pierces the skyline
layers of skyscrapers, broken teeth
smile spreads across the horizon.
And, the city brought in the cranes
to straighten, build up the buildings
and create the most perfect skyline
for the advertisements, plaster
across the brochures in waiting rooms.
The city eager to bulldoze, pull
the snaggletooth mom and pop shops
and push together the gaps
of the old haunts. To remove the ghosts
still swaying in the parking lots
which no longer house cars,
but bare bones of new buildings, skyscrapers
stretch up, up, up.
The city wants the perfect skyline of square edges
tall sleek buildings all glass windows
and fewer doors
to touch the sun even if it blocks out the sky.
