Summer Rain (Repost July 2016)

The first rain
Of the summer
Hits suddenly
Coloring the background in gray
Crashing is the thunder
We all look up
The first drop sizzles as it hits the hot asphalt
Then more drops follow
Soaking into the ground
It is warm, so we don’t hide
We let the water collide into us
Until it is beading upon our thirsty skin
Stomping in the puddles
We dance
As the clouds grow darker
The first rain
Of the summer
Eases the heat, the tension
Growing in sweaty bodies, and thirsty mouths
Craving an escape
We try to find in every glass of water we drink
So when it finally rains
For the first time in the summer
We dance and sing
As our bodies finally find an escape
