Privilege

Skimming a magazine
Eyes skipping over the words
Sentences that don’t quite apply
To my outline
While the news plays in the background
Muted, for the negativity causes wrinkles
And doesn’t ever really
Pertain to the shoes I should wear
Or where I should go this weekend
But first, I need to forget
The fear I see in the profiles
The politics of division
Limiting one from freedom
And giving another everything
I need to ignore
The pounding at doors
Cries of injustice
As cages are built from paranoia
And false bulletins
I need to create
The world in my image
Erasing the inequality of standards
Never acknowledge
That I can spend the day
Sitting on the couch
Disregarding everything
That doesn’t quite apply to my outline
