Candy Hearts (Repost February 2016)

Love is chalky upon my tongue
Little, candy hearts these words
Cheap after taste
That catches in my throat
Leaving me
To spit out every affection
And you look hurt
That I called you out on your secondhand sentences
You decorated in pink cardboard and glitter
I wasn’t one for flashy gestures
I always wanted simple
Straight to the point, words
Love is all words in perfect segmented sentences
You spent hours carving
Into little candy hearts
Instead of putting the emotion into effort, action
We are at a stand still
In my doorway
With me screaming for water
And you crying for love
