Subtle Lullabies

The moon smiled as the night sky
Blurred and became a smudged blue
Swirling, the clouds stretched into black
As the horizon was on fire
When the trees shook within the breeze
Coolness curled around my arms
Tugged at my wrist to go to my car
The day had ended and fell apart
Right in front of my eye
The sun bled into blue and the last glimmer of light
Was from the moon’s crooked grin
The leaves trembled in laughter
And the clouds groaned for rain
These were the subtle lullabies
On an autumn night
