The Everyday

Autumn can be forceful
Pressing herself into the background
Freezing in her indecision
To stay or move forward
She stalls, lingering on the edge
The days etch themselves
Into an outline upon her skin
She remembers being young
As smiles blossom around her
Bursting with teeth and laughter
And she forgot the feeling
Of her lips turning upward
To laugh so hard her face ached
For she stands in the same spot
Watching the buildings fade into the sunset
The leaves scattering and escaping
Along the gutters and rooftops
While she feels herself
Grinding into the concrete
Pressing herself into the backdrop
The everyday, never changing
