Black Hole Sun

The sun became a black hole
Burning bright as it absorbed the sky
We all stood and watched
As the clouds drifted into blackness
As the stars popped
And the birds hid in black cutout trees
Grabbing each other’s hands
We watched as the sun
Began to devour us
In flames, we protested
Built a wall of bodies
To try to convince the sun
We were too big for his mouth
Watched as buildings melted
Into a sea of infrastructure
Reminding us of the prisons we made ourselves
And as the sun burned down our boundaries
We found strength in laced fingers and one voice
Reaching up, until our hands built a new atmosphere
And the sun stopped and swallowed its own tongue
