In The End

Whispering ghosts hover

In the doorways

Discussing our memories

As you step out the door

Twisting the knob carefully

So your tongue doesn’t relapse

Into saying my name

You are common place

Slipping you on

On a rainy day

Letting you collect my pain

It is easier for me if you

Hunch over carrying the weight

Of my decisions

And you want growth

I want to hide in your pockets

Explore your secrets

Tearing them apart trying to find

Myself in your shadows

Fracturing everything about you

Into tiny shreds of paper

Accumulating on the edges of your shoes

You try to shake off the emotions, my rejection

And our ghosts wait, grieving

The sound of your name

For in the end, what is right for one

Isn’t for the other
