Cats and Dogs

The rain is coming down
The drops hiss and growl
Snapping at each other
The rain goes sideways
Streaking across windows
The drops chase after each other
We are casualties
Dripping in the antagonism
Of rolling water
The storm pushes harder
Water stings at the skin
Tiny bites and the winds
Clamor and howl around us
The downpour drives us inside
As we watch the droplets
Weave and slash across the window
Hissing and growling
The chase continues
Until the clouds part
And the cats and dogs
Are kenneled once again
