Firestorm (National Poetry Month Challenge 15)

Write a poem that describes the wallpaper on your computer or the image on the last postcard you
I have already used my current computer wallpaper in a visual poetry quote, so I chose the one before it.

The world burns within my eyes
Dancing flames of hunger
Devouring everything within my gaze
I will not smile nor say hello
Watching you dance, dance
Within the fire living in my eyes
You scream for mercy
For peace
The doves’ wings have been tarnished
Turning ash, burn away innocence
And they rest close to me
Their song weeps
Echoing through the room
As you slowly fade
Into a blur
Of smoke and cries
Falling out of sight
Within the firestorm raging in my eyes
