Kiss of a Silent Movie (first published on my blog December 2015)

Follow that moment
Lingering in the doorway
Watching memories play out
In a silent film
I feel you there
In the room
Standing in front of me
Your hand runs along my arm
Squeezing my hand
I try to reduce you to a shoebox
Shove you in the dark corner of the storage unit
So you will mildew
And I have no other choice
Than to discard every moment
Every picture, every ticket stub
Erase everything about you
From my timeline
Pain pricks at my lips
As if you finally gave me that kiss
Leaving me to close the door and walk away
