Addicted Moths (first published on my blog November 2014)

Delicate and fragile

They linger at doorways

Eyeing you, nervous

How beautiful they could be

In the right moment

Frail their smile

As they wait

For it flicks on like a light switch

The craving tremors through their veins

Whispers of paper wings

They reach out for the light

For they always wanted to feel free

And beautiful

Desire overcomes them and becomes confused

With need

Always want the warmth of the rush

Searching, fluttering for the light, the heat

Until it seeps into their body

Paper wings burn easily

And once morning comes

We push them back into gutter

Vacant, broken dolls

Craving glazing over eyes

And death the only warmth

To blanket their bodies
