Reinventing the Eighties

I hear they are reinventing the eighties marketing it as a new wave of thinking and refreshing new point of view with splashes of neon pink, green and blue outlined on black and white checkered sunglasses wrapped up in big hair and oversized mismatched shoes so they are reinventing the eighties capturing up the songs and plugging in a new techno riff and an occasional gangsta rap

with some teen sweetheart looking to put in some community work for the seventh dui they achieved on the way to a probation meeting so needing a new wave of thinking that doesn’t come in a vial or a bottle or a needle so they want to just share overindulgence in neon pink, yellow and orange sunsets plastic clip on trinkets this is how they want to market reality now in cardboard homes and solutions

that only took congress thirty minutes to piece together at the end of a yearlong episode of indecision so they are reinventing the eighties gathering up all the movies and throwing them in a blender adding a pinch of teen dream and a dabble of reworked soundtrack and you wind up with many renditions of seven friends in a commonly named high school on a rather ordinary day all being chased at the end by some masked man picking them off one by one like our hope that this reinvention will actually work

in neon pink, green and blue and checkered politicians and fading public faith because sound bites with a soundtrack last only as long as they don’t push the mute button on our demands shaking us up throwing us to figurative wolves dressed in nicer clothes and driving overpriced sports cars so they are reinventing the eighties ironing it out alphabetizing by recession and unemployment rates coating in neon pink, yellow and orange so if you are planning to reinvent the eighties.. at least gives us a decent sitcom…
