Let the rain

Dictate tears

Slowly slipping

From half opened eyes

Caught in the shadows

Night skies stretching

Over the horizon

Wanting to tangle

Fingers and hands

Within outline of a stranger

Pretend to be strong

Find beauty in their ambiguity

Followed them home

Leaving their story outside

To smoke a cigarette

While borrowing them

Holding their shadow close

Enjoying not knowing name

Let the rain

Dictate these tears

And a stranger’s voice

Becomes the sweetest lullaby

Drifting away

In the middle of the night

Pretending to be strong

Finding beauty in a stranger’s ambiguity

Small

It was a Spring night

Standing outside

Watching the tree pollen

Floating by like bubbles

Flittering in the night sky

I felt so small

Looking up at all the stars

Almost forgot what they looked like

Feel myself caving in and hoping

That maybe I will see a shooting star

So I can wish for a minute

That I was twenty again and seeing the world

All brand new and shiny

Chasing after shadows without worrying about falling

Without worrying about getting lost

So lost on this Spring night

Looking up, wishing for a moment

That the first star I see tonight

Is the brightest, and will grant me my wish

Or at least provide me guidance

To find my way home

He said let go

Trust me

For I won’t let you fall

Let yourself unravel

Just a little tonight

Then maybe you will fly

If you can trust me

To help you land

So let go he told me

Soft whisper coiling around my ear

Let myself unravel

Just a little tonight

So that I can fly

Let the night embrace me

And trust him

To catch me at dawn

I need to learn to let go

Let myself unravel

Then maybe I could learn to fly

Lingering on night

I embrace it

Like an old partner

Lick the salt from their skin

Smooth out the wrinkles

I will make them new and beautiful

Take away their pain

Within each caress and smile

Drink up their tears

Consuming each fear and memory

Waver in streets

And feel the night come rushing in

Like an old lover

Eager to provide me one more dance

Waiting to hear their name whispered one more time

Kiss away wishes with each breath

Holding close as the night gives away to dawn

I will make them beautiful and new

Lingering upon palms and tender lips

Will let them go

Watching them reborn, light flickering

In the outline of the moon

Smoke framed her

In the shadows

Distorting her outline

Until it was only wisps

Strands unravelling into darkness

Confusing with shadows

Each sway of her body

Brings more disorder

Until all she was

Was the smoke lingering from lips

Fading away into the night

Brief glance

Through the shadows

She caught you

Until unravelling into wisps

Of smoke

And falling away into the night

Chaos was tattooed on her inner thigh

And sometimes

When she is dancing

You can find it lingering in her smile

Twinkling from the corner of her eye

As she twirls around, around

Arms up, fingers tickling the spinning lights

She sways in time with the music

And a part of her unravels slowly as the song continues

If you look closely, you can find her

As she slowly falls apart

And you almost want to collect her and all her pieces

Hold them close as the night continues on

And she just keeps spiraling around, around

Feeling like if you stop watching, you will let her go

To disappear into the shadows

Fall away into the night

She had chaos tattooed on her inner thigh

And sometimes

When she is dancing

You find it knotted around your wrist

Tugging you in slowly

Until you can’t breathe and find yourself

Swaying away to the beat of the music

Taste her on your mouth

Feel her in your hands

As she sways to the music

Slowly unravelling with every song

Makes you want to gather her up and all her pieces

Hold them close

Pulling her away from the edge

Hiding her from the chaos that she always seems to chase

Night

Slides over my skin

Wear each second

Linger over my back

And I find myself

Hovering within the moon

Reflecting in puddles

And I make sure

To get my feet wet

Strolling along the road

And I will find you

Night

Leaning on the horizon

Crooked smile forms a path

That I trace slowly

Until I can slip my hand in yours

Whisper our hellos

Checking the shadows

Tiptoe away

Quiet affairs captured

At night

Let your mouth linger a second longer

Our hands tangled together

Until your name is on my fingertips

I wish to find myself

Spun within your shadow

Until the moonlight greets us

And our skin tangos to our internal rhythm

Traffic are our words

So we allow our breath to provide directions

Hold me close through the night

Until we are tangled in each other’s gazes by morning

Tripped over the sunset

Finding my way home

Stumbled over stray flashing marquees

Night slid off my shoulders

Knees bruised, I fumble to regain

Balance, then scoured for the stars I sent flying

Disheveled are my words

Found the deep oranges had stained my palms

Crowds snapped at my feet, pushing

Me further into deepening purples

Tears threaten my eyes, collecting

Myself into a ball

Lost among the skyscrapers

Alcohol saturating my senses, stumbling

Tripped over the sunset

Trying to find my name among the traffic lights

Blinking red in my eyes, falling back

Back into the darkening sky

Finding night is a dark stranger

That sometimes has the manners to show a girl home

But also the teeth to feast on their flesh

Chilled, alone in this concrete cage

I stumbled over the sunset

Trying to find my way home

Saturated in alcohol, and knees bruised

Wrestling for loose change, waving my hand

Hoping for cab, hoping

For this lost girl to find herself out of this city

And back home

Night

Slides over my skin

Wear each second

Linger over my back

And I find myself

Hovering within the moon

Reflecting in puddles

And I make sure

To get my feet wet

Strolling along the road

And I will find you

Night

Leaning on the horizon

Crooked smile forms a path

That I trace slowly

Until I can slip my hand in yours

Whisper our hellos

Checking the shadows

Tiptoe away

Quiet affairs captured

At night
